All great teams in the premier league outscored their rivals in the 1/16 finals. Manchester City and Chelsea playing away from their stadiums beat easily by 1-4 its rivals Sunderland and Walsall respectively.

On the other hand the Manchester United playing at Old Trafford beat Ipswich 3-0. Arsenal which had the most difficult opponent had to work a lot to outscored Tottenham forcing him to sweat blood to overcome the round and advance to second round. The result was 1-2 with 2 goals of Flamini.

The surprise was Liverpool which at home had to outscore Carlisle in a penalty shootout (3-2) after drawing 1-1 in 90 minutes and extra time.

The new of the day was starred by Newcastle who had lost the round with Sheffield Wed 0-1
